The Clapham Commitment

Just as you do at home, we have unfailingly high expectations of our students and the way in which they conduct themselves.

Our three key rules of being prepared, exemplary and respectful are embedded within our Clapham Commitment and applies equally to students and adults alike.

We explicitly teach our behaviour expectations to our students and focus heavily on rewarding behaviour that goes above and beyond in meeting our expectations.

Our expectation of students

Our expectations of you as our students is that you will be excellent ambassadors of yourselves, who learn from your mistakes. We expect our students to:

  • know and abide by our key behaviour rules
  • learn how to develop positive learning behaviours
  • live and breathe The Clapham Commitment

We work hard to make sure you are happy, feel safe and develop into the best version of yourselves you can possibly be.

You will know from the discussions we have had with you in the academy, that our behaviour expectations are really clear and simple: that you will be prepared, that you will be exemplary and that you will be respectful:

The 3 rules

For me as a student:

Be prepared - ready to learn.

  1. I have the right equipment
  2. I get to my lesson on time and settle quickly and quietly
  3. I do my homework well.

Be exemplary in the way I present myself - manners, pride and kindness

  1. I wear the correct uniform
  2. I am polite and kind all the time and I never bully anyone
  3. I never shout out.

Be respectful – to others, to the environment and to myself

  1. I don’t drop litter anywhere
  2. I listen and respect the views of others
  3. I never make anyone feel unsafe (no cussing, no physical contact).

You will also know that we will always aim to support before we sanction and that rewards play a major role in the academy. These include:

  • Tweets/texts home
  • Phone calls home
  • Letters home
  • Shout outs in assembly
  • Clapham Credit notes
  • Clapham Crystals* (exceptional evidence of going above and beyond)
  • Invitation to rewards breakfast/evening

Anti-Bullying

You will know that The Clapham Commitment highlights our expectation of being respectful to ourselves and others. This means that we treat others with kindness and respect.

It is important that our Academy is a caring and safe environment for you as our students and for our staff so that we can learn and work in a secure atmosphere. Bullying of any kind is unacceptable in our Academy and will not be tolerated.

This means that we need to act when we see behaviour that does not meet our high standards.

  • Is another student making you unhappy/ feel bullied?
  • Is someone else being bullied/mistreated by someone?

We do not turn a blind eye, be a bystander or provide an audience for a bully. It is really important that you take action immediately. Do not ignore it and hope that it will go away.

Speak to a member of staff and tell them what is happening. Put a note in the suggestion box and a member of staff will make contact with you. Speak to someone at home who can then tell a member of staff. Log your concern using this link: info@harrisclapham.org.uk

There are also a number of websites that can offer support and guidance (but remember that these do not take the place of telling someone):
