Safeguarding is everyone’s concern. Our staff, governors, students, parents/carers, external agencies and members of the local community – all have responsibility for ensuring the highest standards of safeguarding.
Safeguarding is the professional responsibility of every member of staff and every person involved in the Academy community. We take this responsibility very seriously and we work hard to ensure that all children are safe and protected from any type of harm.
It is of utmost importance to us that our students feel safe and cared for so that they are confident to make the most of every opportunity we afford them to develop into the best version of themselves they can possibly be.

Out of hours
If you have a safeguarding concern during any period the academy is closed, please call Lambeth Children’s Social Care on 0207 926 5555, or contact helpandprotection@lambeth.gov.uk
If you think a child is in immediate danger or in the event of an emergency, please call 999.
Report a concern
Students can use Reporting a Concern form (or scan the QR code) to report a safeguarding or bullying concern about a student that attends Harris Academy Clapham. You can do this anonymously or leave your name. This form will alert a member of the safeguarding team (during working hours in term time).
If someone is in immediate danger or risk of harm always dial 999.
Where possible always speak to the child's Tutor, pastoral Leader or a Designated Safeguarding Lead.
Safeguarding poster
The safeguarding poster below is displayed in every classroom and key places around the academy. This is to make sure everyone connected to the academy can approach key staff (and any member of staff) to share any safeguarding concerns.

Visiting speakers to the academy
Our curriculum is enriched by a wide range of visiting speakers, lecturers, authors and other visitors. To ensure our guests and visitors, and what they say, is in line with our values, the academy completes rigorous checks. This means we can be confident that we are protecting our students from extremist views, such as radicalisation and homophobia, while enjoying the wide benefits of external speakers.
Visitors are welcome to Harris Academy Clapham. Visitors offer our students a window into the world outside of the academy and also an opportunity for them to develop their skills in conduct and communication. It is our expectation that all visitors will conduct themselves as true role models for our students in line with our CARE (Commitment, Ambition, Resilience, Empathy) Values.
In particular, we ask that visitors:
- dress professionally
- act with kindness and compassion to others
- treat everyone with respect
- do not eat or drink in corridors or classrooms
- do not use your mobile phone in front of students
Should you have any concern about a student during your visit to the academy, please contact reception and ask to speak to a member of the safeguarding team. Visitors must take a Safeguarding Leaflet on attendance in the academy.
The Prevent Duty and Channel
Matt Holmes is our designated, accredited Prevent Duty Lead. The Prevent duty helps to safeguard our students against radicalisation, extremism and any actions or beliefs that are contrary to British Values and our academy ethos. It responds to the ideological challenge of terrorism and the threat we face from those who promote it, and prevents people from being drawn into terrorism and ensure that they are given appropriate advice and support.
At Harris Clapham we opposes all form of extremism. We define ‘extremism’ as vocal or active opposition to fundamental British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs.
The academy will work also closely with the counter-terrorism referral programme “Channel”. Channel is a multi-agency approach to identify and provide support to individuals who are at risk of being drawn into terrorism. The programme uses a multi-agency approach to protect vulnerable people by:
- identifying individuals at risk
- assessing the nature and extent of that risk
- developing the most appropriate support plan for the individuals concerned.
