Student Leadership

Hacl001 group

Our Student Leadership programme gives every student at the academy a voice in the running of the school, and a chance to bring about positive change.

Students have the chance to develop and demonstrate their leadership skills both inside and outside of the classroom. See our Student Leadership - How It Works page for details of the current leadership team.

Leadership skills in action

The Student Leadership Team is open to students in years 7-10. Getting involved in student leadership is a great way to learn and develop leadership skills, which will stand students in good stead for the rest of their lives.

The aims of our student leadership initiatives are to:

  • encourage active student engagement in learning and the life of the Academy and wider community
  • be inclusive and give students a range of ways to represent their academy, including in the recruitment of staff
  • nurture the skills required to develop responsibility, independence, teamwork and maturity in relationships with students and staff
  • design appropriate curriculum and extra-curricular/enrichment opportunities that are influenced by student voice and choice
  • promote active citizenship by establishing a fully-functioning democratic body with real influence in the Academy
  • contribute to whole Academy improvement
  • develop staff-student dialogue, with a focus on improving the quality of education provided.

Student Voice - expressing your views

All students have the opportunity to express their views, suggestions, ideas and concerns about Academy life through termly Student Voice surveys and Head of Academy Student Voice meetings.
