Transition - Parent Information
Dear Parents & Carers,
It is with great pleasure that we welcome you and your child to Harris Academy Clapham.
You may know that in November 2023 we had our first Ofsted inspection. As part of this, our work supporting the personal development of students was graded outstanding. I was very proud of the section of the report which stated, “Pupils speak glowingly about the support offered by teachers and leaders.”
The purpose of our Year 7 transition events and this section of our website is for us to learn as much as possible about your child. This will help us to provide this same support to them as they move into our Academy. Please use our open events and our transition events as an opportunity to ask any questions that you may have. My team will be on hand throughout this process to support you.
We strongly encourage your child to sign up for clubs after school. All students are expected to join at least one club. Students can also use our Library until 4pm to complete homework.
I look forward to meeting you and your child throughout the transition process and at our Year 7 transition events.
Peter Groves, Executive Principal

Student learning during transition
The transition to Year 7 is an important time for you and your child. While this process can be daunting, it is an important moment in your child’s life and one that they will remember for the rest of their lives.
During the transition process, we aim to ensure that students continue their learning journey during the gap between primary and secondary. We want students to thrive in their first steps into a very different setting that may be very daunting for some students.
As part of the transition process, students will have the opportunity to take part in a 'Summer School'. This is a time where students can get to know the academy, its leaders and teachers as well as experiencing what life is like in secondary school.
This is also a time for you as a parent to ask questions about some of the differences and similarities between primary and secondary school and what you can expect from the academy both during the transition process and when your child arrives with us on their first day.
During the transition period, we will provide weekly resources for your son or daughter to work on, including work that students can be completing during the summer to ensure they continue their learning journey. This work will be provided after students have completed their SATs exams.
