Overview

Dear Parents & Carers,

DAS

Welcome to Harris Academy Clapham!

Many thanks for applying to Harris Academy Clapham and we hope you are as pleased as we are that you are joining us in September! I have been working for the Harris Federation since 2008, and I am delighted to now be overseeing Harris Clapham and Harris Clapham Sixth Form. We have a fantastic school and students who come here have automatic places at Clapham Sixth Form which is our outstanding Sixth Form College. I am really looking forward to meeting you at one of our many welcome events over the next few weeks and months and to showing you around our incredible facilities. If you have any questions or would simply like to come and see us, please do not hesitate to contact us.

There are inevitably some forms that we would like you to complete and if we can help in any way with that or you would like things to be translated, please do let us know. We have a lot of information to give you; please don’t become overwhelmed – if there is anything we can do to help, please just let us know!

Student learning during transition

The transition to Year 7 is an important time for you and your child. While this process can be daunting, it is an important moment in your child’s life and one that they will remember for the rest of their lives.

During the transition process, we aim to ensure that students continue their learning journey during the gap between primary and secondary. We want students to thrive in their first steps into a very different setting that may be very daunting for some students.

This is also a time for you as a parent to ask questions about some of the differences and similarities between primary and secondary school and what you can expect from the academy both during the transition process and when your child arrives with us on their first day.

During the transition period, we will provide weekly resources for your son or daughter to work on, including work that students can be completing during the summer to ensure they continue their learning journey. This work will be provided after students have completed their SATs exams.
