Harris Clapham Student Wins Federation-Wide Idioms Calendar Competition

 
We are thrilled to announce that Nina, a talented Year 8 student at Harris Academy Clapham, has won the Federation-Wide Idioms Calendar Poster Competition as part of the European Day of Languages celebrations.
 
The competition invited students from across the Harris Federation to explore idiomatic expressions in different languages and create a visually engaging poster explaining their meaning.
 
Nina’s winning entry showcased the Italian idiom “Piovere a catinelle”, which literally translates to “to rain wash basins” and is equivalent to the English phrase “to rain like cats and dogs.”
 
Her creative design combined vibrant colours, playful illustrations, and clear explanations, making it both informative and eye-catching. Nina’s poster will now feature in the official Harris Federation Idioms Calendar, which will be shared across all academies, a fantastic achievement!
 
This success highlights the importance of language learning and cultural understanding, values we proudly champion at Harris Clapham. Congratulations to Nina for her outstanding work and for representing our academy so brilliantly!
